When I was in the city a few weeks ago, I was walking in Chelsea and came across this little quaint Mexican cafe called La Chilaqueria on West 28th, and I knew I had to grab something to eat there. I am honestly glad I went because the food and service were incredible
I originally was going to order a pork burrito, however, one of the employees suggested that I try the 'Chilaquiles Burrito' instead, and I am so glad I did because it was simply amazing, mouthwatering, and tastebud-salivating! This burrito has pork, chorizo, chilaquiles (small corn tortillas), beans, queso fresco, and avocado with a creamy four chiles almond-based salsa. It also came with a dipping sauce on the side that looked like it contained chili peppers that had a slightly sweet tang with a ton of spice kick. However, I searched online what the sauce actually was, and it was a salsa macha made up of dried peppers, nuts, and oil. The burrito was extremely filling but so good and sort of spicy. This was interesting because it had no rice, but I did not mind that though. The biggest thing that stood out to me was that the pork seemed a little breaded almost like eggplant, and had a similar substance to it. I do not know if I was imagining things, but it was delicious.
La Chilaqueria is open every day from eight to five and serves breakfast and a couple of things for lunch. Takeout and delivery are offered here through apps like DoorDash, Seamless, Postmates, etc. Next time you are looking for somewhere new and unique to eat from in the city, you should consider La Chilaqueria!
